1. Education: A minimum of a master’s degree in speech/language pathology from an accredited institution offering training in this specialty. Must meet all standards required by the American Speech, Language and Hearing Association and obtained the certificate of clinical competence. Must have a current license to practice speech/language pathology in the State of Arkansas.



2. Training and Experience: The speech/language pathologist must have 375 hours of supervised clinical experience and 9 months of post-graduate professional experience (completion of clinical fellowship year). They must obtain 12 hours of continuing professional education (CPE’s) to maintain state licensure and current professional knowledge and techniques.



3. Job Knowledge: Must be able to perform job duties of a certified speech/language pathologist and those general duties specific to the Rehabilitative Services Department. Must be able to function in a professional manner with minimal direct supervision.

DESCRIPTION:



Speech/language pathologist is responsible for providing reports, progress, evaluating, treating and counseling patients of all ages with speech, language, voice, fluency, oral motor(including swallowing) and any other deviation or disorder that alters an individual’s need, ability or way of means of communication. Must be willing, if the need arises, to supervise support personnel and clinical fellowship candidates. Must exhibit good rapport with other departments and nursing staff to enhance the quality improvement studies. Assists in maintaining material needed for assessment, treatment, charging and scheduling of patients. Be able to provide counseling services when appropriate to patient and family members in the realm of consultations, evaluations, reports, progress and special needs instruction to facilitate the patient’s communication and basic needs.



Physical Effort: Use the skills of talking and listening to convey instructions and information to patients, family members and other staff. Must be able to evaluate and treat patients in the various areas of speech/language pathology.
