City of Newport

The City of Newport received bids for work on the Newport Downtown Sidewalk Project funded by the Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department through the federal Transportation Enhancement Grant program. Newport was awarded a $250,000 grant that must be matched with $50,000 from the City, provided by the City itself and three private economic development groups.

Six contractors bid on the project and after a review by the architect, MESA Landscape Architects, the bid will be awarded to the lowest qualified bidder. Work is anticipated to start in early 2014.
