The Newport City Council meets in the Municipal Building at 6:00 p. m. on the first and third Mondays of Every Month.

REGULAR MEETING OF CITY COUNCIL
August 5, 2013
The City Council of the City of Newport, Arkansas met in regular session Monday, August 5, 2013 in the chambers of the Municipal Courtroom.
Mayor Stewart called the meeting to order. City Clerk/Treasurer Hembrey called the roll. Council members present were Michael Allen, Jr., Sheridan Chadwell, Kathy Green, Eddie Johnson, Regina Lake, Andy May, Julie Moss and Neal Pankey. City Attorney Steve Howard was present.
Following the invocation by Regina Lake, those present recited the Pledge of Allegiance.
A motion by Lake and second by Chadwell to approve the minutes of the July 15, 2013 meeting carried (7/0) with “yes” votes by Allen, Chadwell, Johnson, Lake, May, Moss and Pankey. Green abstained due to being absent at that meeting.
REPORTS & COMMUNICATIONS:
Mayor Stewart had the following reports:
The June 2013 Financial Statements for the General Fund, Sewer Fund, Street Fund, 911 Fund and the Newport Airport Commission were given to each council member. Mayor Stewart asked that each council member review the financial statements and direct any questions to City Clerk/Treasurer Hembrey or him.
Fire Truck has been ordered – Chief Gansz reported that it should be ready at the end of August according to the supplier.
Mayor Stewart stated that the Sales Taxes for June 2013 were City Sales Taxes - $124,228, County Sales Taxes - $76,058 and NEDC Sales Taxes - $62,181.
Mayor Stewart stated that City Attorney Howard had finished reviewing and revising the Policies and Procedures Manual for the Police Department. A motion by May and second by Lake to accept the Manual of Policies and Procedures for the Police Department carried (8/0) with “yes” votes by Lake, Green, May, Chadwell, Allen, Pankey, Johnson and Moss.
Consider the Resignation of Planning Commission Member – Shane Hutchinson
Mayor Stewart stated that Shane Hutchinson requested that the City Council accept his resignation from the Planning Commission due to not being able to attend the meetings due to his job. A motion by Allen and second by Johnson to accept the resignation of Shane Hutchinson from the Planning Commission carried (8/0) with “yes” votes by Johnson, Allen, Moss, Lake, Green, Pankey, May and Chadwell.
Mayor Stewart asked that anyone who knew a good candidate for the Planning Commission to call his office.
With no further business before the Council, the meeting was adjourned.
